Because I can do whatever I want whenever I choose. As you might already know, I’ve just left Bologna, and I’m quite sad about it, but, at the same time, I’m feeling really excited to be hitting the road again. Next week I will be landing at Iași International Airport (Romania) with my newly purchased carry-on travel bag. I don’t know what I’m gonna find there or what I’m specifically gonna do, but I pledge to do my best to get to know the country and, why not, to learn the local language.
Lately, I’ve had the chance to catch up with some old friends and I noticed that they’re struggling. They can’t wait to turn their lives around, but they don’t find the strength to take the plunge. How about you stop fearing and take a leap of faith? If something goes wrong, you’ll always be able to get back to your old life. But, believe me, you won’t.
Even though sometimes I’m very dubious about my future, I love not feeling the burden of an unsatisfactory job that keeps me trapped in a never ending routine. I’ll probably never be wealthy or perhaps I’ll have to fight for a decent retirement pension, but when I imagine myself wandering around I really appreciate my lifestyle. But not just because I get to travel. I like it because I have complete freedom.
Currently, I have no real plans, but, if nothing goes awry, I’m gonna stay in Romania for a few months. I’m starting to get hooked on their language which is spoken by approximately 25 million people. Romanian is unlike any of its linguistic relatives because is the only Romance language spoken in Eastern Europe and has a huge Slavic influence.
I’ll try to get a job, find a language course and travel as much as I can. I’ve been told that Romania is absolutely worth visiting with many medieval cities and a mind-blowing countryside. I hope all positive inputs I had are true, and I find there a new place to call home.
“I admire you”, “I would like to do the same thing” or “If only I had more money”. I get to hear that quite a lot and it kind of bothers me. Because I’m doing nothing special, just trying to be happy and satisfy my curiosity. Just do the same. If you want to, quit your job, jump into a plane and discover the world. STOP complaining START doing.
See you in a few days, Romania.
